echocardiogram westmead

Echocardiogram (Echo)

Echocardiogram is a diagnostic test that uses sound waves to create detailed images of the heart. This test helps cardiologists in Westmead assess the heart’s structure and function. Echocardiogram can help diagnose and evaluate various heart conditions, such as congenital heart defects, valve problems, cardiomyopathy, and heart failure. The procedure is painless and typically takes 30 to 60 minutes.

There are several types of echocardiograms, including transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE), transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE), and stress echocardiogram.

Stress-Echocardiogram westmead

Stress Echocardiogram (Stress test)

Stress echocardiogram is a noninvasive test that combines a regular echocardiogram with a stress test. It helps cardiologists in Westmead to assess how well heart functions under physical stress or increased heart rate. During a stress echocardiogram, images of your heart are taken before and immediately after physical exercise, typically walking on a treadmill. If you cannot exercise, a medication may be used to simulate the effects of physical stress. Read more about different types of stress tests.

Stress echocardiograms can help diagnose and evaluate various heart conditions, such as coronary artery blockages and rhythm abnormalities. The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes to complete.
